About the Alentejo Coast

The Alentejo Coast is the Atlantic coastline of Portugal’s Alentejo region. It starts at the Tróia peninsula and ends at the Seixe river, by Odeceixe, where the Algarve begins. It runs through the municipalities of Grândola, Alcácer do Sal, Santiago do Cacém, Sines and Odemira.

In the north there are rice fields, pine forests and long sandy beaches, from Comporta to Melides and the Santo André and Sancha lagoons. From Sines southwards the coast changes: schist cliffs, small coves and fishing villages such as Porto Covo, Vila Nova de Milfontes, Almograve and Zambujeira do Mar. Much of this stretch is protected by the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park, and you can walk it on the Rota Vicentina trails.

About this site

costaalentejana.info is an independent guide, organised by place and by topic: where to stay, where to eat, beaches and nature, culture and leisure, shops and services, health and wellbeing, and property for anyone thinking of moving to the region.

It is a young project that is growing step by step. If you run a business on the coast, you can list it for free.

The information here is general visitor guidance. Always confirm opening hours, prices, availability and sea conditions directly with businesses or official sources.
